SSE Weekly Colloquium | 理工学院系列研讨会邀请

The School of Science and Engineering is committed to creating a platform for students and faculty members to exchange ideas and explore cutting-edge research developments in various fields of science and engineering. Starting from 2021 fall, SSE will organize the "Weekly Colloquium" series of seminars every Friday. Each week, SSE will invite our faculty members and distinguished guest speakers from outside the University to conduct academic seminars.

All students and faculty members are invited to join the weekly colloquium!

About the Colloquium

The speaker on December 1 is Prof. Ayman Kachmar of SSE. The following is detailed information about the colloquium.

Abstract

The talk reviews the phenomenon of quantum tunneling in quantum mechanics and the progress in its mathematical understanding, blending components from linear algebra and functional analysis. Then, recent results on quantum tunneling in the presence of magnetic fields will be discussed, mainly inspired by a paper by C. Fefferman, J. Shapiro and M.I. Weinstein (2022).

The Speaker

Ayman Kachmar is a professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, starting on September 1, 2023. He obtained a Ph.D. in mathematics from Paris XI University, France; afterwards, he held post-doctoral positions in Paris, France and in Aarhus, Denmark. Before joining CUHK-Shenzhen, Ayman Kachmar was professor at the Lebanese University, Lebanon, and has held visiting professor positions in Lebanon, France, and Sweden. He published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals on various topics such as the magnetic and Robin Laplacians, counting eigenvalues, quantum tunneling, phase transitions in Ginzburg--Landau and Landau--deGennes theories.
